LUHSD wants talented individuals like you who want to make a difference in the lives of students!

As the county’s largest high school district, the Lassen Union High School District (LUHSD) serves around 800 students. The District, which encompasses the city of Susanville and several neighboring cities, offers opportunities for teachers who are looking for a more intimate school environment. We believe teachers shape the future, and we are committed to educational reform and innovative instructional programs that are aligned to state standards. The LUHSD provides a supportive and dynamic environment for making a difference in young lives and enriching the student-teacher experience.

New to the Community?

Lassen Union High School District employees enjoy the friendliness typically found in rural communities.  We are located in Susanville in Northeastern California, 90 miles north of Reno and 100 miles east of Redding and Chico. At an elevation of 4,255 feet, Susanville is the county seat of Lassen County.

Lassen County is a unique combination of deserts, lakes, snow-capped mountains, lush forest and grassy meadows. It is endowed with many and varied recreation areas, clean air, affordable housing and a rural hometown ambiance that enhances the quality of life of those who chose to live in Lassen County.

Hunting & Fishing

Lassen County has some of the best hunting and fishing in the country. When it comes to fishing we have several mountain lakes including Eagle Lake, Lake Almanor and Antelope Lake. These lakes hold trout, bass, crappie, catfish, perch and many other species. For the fly fishing enthusiast we have the Susan River and are very close to the world famous Hat Creek.

For the hunter, we live in Mule Deer country and have been called the Mule Deer capital of California. We also have elk, antelope, coyotes, chukar, quail, dove, ducks, geese, grouse and pheasant. There is a multitude of public hunting land within the Forest Service and BLM. We also have Honey Lake Wildlife Refuge, 7,600 acres, Willow Creek Wildlife Area 2,700 acres, Biscar Wildlife Area, 548 acres and Bass Hill Wildlife Area, 5,600 acres. Come and get your fill of the outdoors!

Ski & Snow

For those looking to ski or snowboard, Coppervale Ski Hill is only 30 minutes outside of town. Susanville is also only a quick and easy two-hour drive from Lake Tahoe, home of several ski resorts.

Outdoor Activities

There is something for everyone when it comes to outdoor activities in Lassen County. From hiking or biking the 29 mile Bizz Johnson Trail, to Ash Creek Wildlife area, to a round of golf at the 18 Hole Championship Diamond Mountain Golf Course.

Local Culture and activities

Every year on the first Saturday in May, the Lassen County Office of Education sponsors The Children’s Fair, which features low cost activities geared towards a family day of fun.

Also in May, the Susanville Rancheria holds it’s annual Pow Wow which celebrates the culture of our local Native American tribes through dancing, singing, food, and crafts.

The summer’s biggest event comes in the form of a good old-fashioned county fair. With live entertainment, 4H competitions, parades and more, the Lassen County Fair is the place to be! This event is held the third week of July annually.

During the winter there are many craft fairs where local artisans come out to show their best work while preparing for small town celebrations such as the annual tree lighting at the Elks Lodge in the historic uptown area.
